Unfortunately, I am just not haveing enough time to maintain it properly. I think that I will probably start focussing almost exclusively on this blog as the source for information about MediaLine Radio. So, for starters, here is the current schedule.

12 February - 25 February 2005

Steve LeMay will join us again to mark the 60th anniversary of RCI. First off, the bad news: - For the time being, MediaLine will no longer be archived on the Internet. I'm finding updating the website quite a strain, however, this does not neccesarily mean that this will be the case for ever.

Moving on to what I consider more positive stuff, there is a real possibility that very soon, MediaLine will be expanding to 1-hour every two weeks, instead of just 1/2 hour. If this happens, the format of the programme will also expand to include all aspects of radio old and new. This will still include the usual interviews and news items, but will also include some old-time radio drama (and some new stuff too if I can get the rights). I also intend to include programming highlights, and maybe some occasional features on more specialist radio subjects such as scanning and FM/TV DXing.

Streaming Audio

Because the current edition of MediaLine had to be done in two parts. For some reason, the editing software was not doing what it was supposed to be doing, and the show had to be submitted to IRRS in two parts. The broadcast seemed to go smoothly though.

A quick reminder that on Christmas day, the IRRS special Christmas broadcast will be at 0800-1100 UTC on 13840kHz at 100,000W. I'll be presenting the first half-hour. There will be a repeat of the three our broadcast the following day at 2000-2300 UTC on 5775kHz, also at 100,000W. However, MediumWave reception is very good at the moment, for example, I live just outside Plymouth, and on Wednesday night at around 7p.m., I was able to clearly hear AFN on 873kHz from Frankfurt, the BBC World Service on 648kHz (targeted at south eastern England), and Premier's London frequency of 1413kHz. And this was just with a portable radio's internal antenna.

Last night, I interviewed Alfredo E. Controneo, CEO, Nexus-IBA. This interview will be aired on the Christmas day special at 0800 UTC on 13840kHz, repeated the next day at 2000 UTC on 5775kHz. Unfortunately, for the first ten minutes or so, there was a lot of what could have been adjecent-channel interference, but sounded more like another programme being aired at the same time using the same transmitter. I'll contact IRRS later to see if they can shed any light on the situation. There was also quite a lot of propagation disturbance, I'd say that the SINPO was about 35323. MediaLine was followed at around 0925 by a Johnny Cash record, which was unexpected.

I received a QSL card yesterday from CRI yesterday featuring a picture of the Tian An Men Rostrum. Yesterday it had 59 unique visitors, which I'm quite pleased about. It's good to know that you're out there, thanks for listening. That is, unless, of course, these visitors are just SPAM programmes searching for email addresses. But either way, I'm not going to complain.

Coming up tommorow on the programme, we'll have the second part of my interview with Bill Damick, Knowledge Management Officer, Trans World Radio.
